Advanced Fighting Fantasy - Cave Wars!

Available now from Arion Games is Cave Wars - a new way to play the Advanced Fighting Fantasy RPG.

Adventure as a Dwarf of Stonehaven trying to defeat the evil Goblins of Blackfang and control the caves and caverns under Khul, or play as a cunning Goblin, trying to drive the terrible Dwarfs of Stonehaven out of the caves and mines and protect the town of Blackfang.

However, in Cave Wars, you don't need to choose one side, because both sides choose you!

You play as a Dwarf one session, and as a Goblin the next. They are both your Heroes and you are trying to succeed with both, even as success puts your other Hero in a difficult position!

Written by Graham Bottley, this book contains:
  • Template-based Goblin and Dwarf Hero creation
  • Rules for Stonehaven and Blackfang towns and their characteristics
  • Session creation rules with challenges, map design and rewards
  • 34 Adventure seeds
  • Campaign notes
  • Brand new Goblin and Dwarf Hero sheets

Join the Hunt for the Black Whale with Arion Games!

Available now is a new adventure for Advanced Fighting Fantasy - The Hunt for the Black Whale.

Boarding a ship and hunting down a gigantic and dangerous Black Whale off the coast of the Old World is a tricky enough task, but the Heroes are about to find their task becomes even more difficult...

Written by Andrew Wright, and illustrated by Andrew Wright and Mike Tenebrae, The Hunt for the Black Whale takes 2-3 sessions to run, and is great as both a one-off or modified slightly to fit into any AFF campaign.

Inspired by Moby Dick, the story of Jonah, and even Jaws, the adventure sees the Heroes board the Questral, a ship hunting a monstrous Black Whale off the coast of the Old World.

There are various nautical issues and encounters, before eventually the Heroes are swallowed whole, at which point the interior of the whale becomes an organic dungeon. Can the Heroes survive, and how can they escape the horror of the Black Whale?

Merry Christmas from Fighting Fantasy

It has been another busy year for Fighting Fantasy. There has been the release of another new Fighting Fantasy gamebook, The Dungeon on Blood Island, as well as the publication of numerous foreign translations, some of which marked the 40th anniversary of particular titles.

Then there was the release of two non-fiction books about Fighting Fantasy, Jonathan Green's YOU ARE THE HERO: An Interactive History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks, and MAGIC REALMS: The Art of Fighting Fantasy, written by Jonathan Green and Sir Ian Livingstone.

There was also crowdfunding success for the Advanced Fighting Fantasy Adventure Creation System and the board game Dark Dungeons.

And of course, Fighting Fantasy Fest 5 took place in September, marking 40 years of Deathtrap Dungeon and featuring an in-person visit from ace artist Iain McCaig.

So, what does 2025 have in store for Fighting Fantasy fans? Apart from the release of Fighting Fantasy Adventures and more Fighting Fantasy Classics from Tin Man Games, you mean? You'll just have to wait and see.

But in the meantime, here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
