Fighting Fantasy Adventures Update

There is exciting news from Wallace Designs in Australia. Fighting Fantasy Adventures, the solo and co-op adventure game based on the iconic Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks, has gone to press.

All the necessary files have been sent to the printer and they will now create a sample for the designers to carry out their final checks. Once that has been done, the game will move to production.

This means that hopefully everything will be ready before the end of April. Taking into account the time required to ship the product from the factory and then for fulfilment to take place, it looks like the game will be ready roughly six months later than originally planned. However, given how much the scope of the project changed in terms of art, this delay is both understandable and will be worth it.

The boxed game of Fighting Fantasy Adventures will also include the Journal - a 32 page booklet containing lots of game art and room for your notes. It will also contain a brief history of Fighting Fantasy, as well as the history of how Fighting Fantasy Adventures came to be, and all of the character stories that have been published during the Gamefound campaign.

Are YOU Game?

I understand that on your Earthly Plane you are facing a weekend of noble sporting endeavours, it being the finals of both the ball-blugeon contest Wimbledon, and the foot-the-ball competition of the Euros.

While I prefer the gladiatorial games of Blood Island myself, sport is nonetheless enjoyed by all manner of races, all across the world of Titan too. Port Blacksand - that notorious City of Thieves - even has its own Sports Arena, where events such as Dwarf-tossing, Pixie Throttling, and Shoot-the-Apple-Off-The-Goblin's-Head - entrance 1 Gold Piece - may be enjoyed.

However, without doubt, the most popular sport undertaken within the arena is that of Bays' Ball.

Bays' Ball is a game played by the small Goblin-like creatures known as Bays, hence its name. It is their favourite game.

The game is played by two teams of small, Goblin-like creatures, known as Bays (hence its name), who alternate between fielding and batting. A small leather ball is thrown or "pitched" by a designated member of the fielding side to an opposing player who, armed with a wooden stick, hits the ball and then attempts to run around a circuit delimited by cloth bags manned by fielding Bays.

If the ball is hit over the wall of the stadium or arena the game is being played in then the batting team will score a complete circuit and can potentially win immediately. If the batter misses completely then they are out and this is denoted by the words "You're out!" being called behind the batter. The score is often displayed on the walls of the arena through the employment of cloth banners suspended from wooden hangers. These are updated as the score changes by designated Bays.

Bays are passionate about the game and players and supporters alike will react badly to losing. On the other hand, they are overjoyed when they win and supporters have been known to shower gifts upon the player responsible for the victory. It has been known for non-Bays to be allowed to play, and even spectators are sometimes accepted onto the field to play.

Other sports popular across Allansia and beyond include Ogreball, and Bataar Racing. What's your favourite of all the Titan games?

Oh, and good luck England!

The 12 Fighting Fantasy Days of Christmas - Day 9

Devastated by a killer virus, the world you once knew is a wilderness.

Life is lawless and dangerous. Survivors like you either live in scattered, fortified towns, or roam outside as bandits. YOUR mission is to cross the wilderness to the far-distant oil-refinery at San Anglo and bring vital supplies back to the peaceful town of New Hope. Even in the armed Dodge Interceptor you are given, the journey will be wild and perilous. Will YOU survive?

Coming next year to a Messenger App near you is the Freeway Fighter Chatbot, FF13.

Having started life as a Fighting Fantasy Gamebook, in recent years Freeway Fighter has been turned into a limited run of comics and graphic novel, but in 2021 you will be able to play Ian Livingstone's much-loved post-apocalyptic adventure again via the Messenger App on your phone, tablet or PC.

This new version has been developed by the Hungary-based team at Talk-A-Bot along with Ian Livingstone.

Below is a screenshot to give you an idea of what the Freeway Fighter Chatbot will look like.

As ever, keep checking www.fightingfantasy.com and follow Fighting Fantasy on social media - via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be kept up to date with all developments.

Bring and Buy at Fighting Fantasy Fest 3

This year, for the first time, there will be a Bring and Buy stand at Fighting Fantasy Fest 3, which is being run to raise money for the UK Sepsis Trust, in memory of FF fan Neil Taylor.

Neil Taylor at Fighting Fantasy Fest in 2014.

Please note that the Bring and Buy is provided for individuals to sell their unwanted games and gamebooks. Exhibitors may not use the Bring and Buy as a way of disposing of stock.

Transform some of your old games and gamebooks into cash to buy new ones, or search our Warlock’s hoard of gaming goodness for that bargain you’ve been looking for. Board games, card games, role-playing books, miniatures, comics, and everything else associated with gaming – it’s all here.

ALL TRANSACTIONS AT THE BRING AND BUY ARE IN CASH ONLY. NO CREDIT CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Please read carefully

  1. Fighting Fantasy Fest 3 will take 10% commission on all goods sold on the Bring and Buy rounded up to the nearest 10p.
  2. The seller is responsible for registering and collecting all submitted items.
  3. Items cannot be withdrawn from sale before 12:00pm on the day.
  4. All goods offered on the Bring and Buy are left at the sellers risk - Fighting Fantasy Fest 3 and the members operating the Bring and Buy accept no responsibility or liability for any goods stolen, lost or accidentally damaged.
  5. Fighting Fantasy Fest 3 retains the right to not accept for sale any items it deems inappropriate. (This includes damaged items, poorly packaged items, items not suitable for a family audience, or old stock from exhibitors or other companies).
  6. All profit from the Bring and Buy will be donated to The UK Sepsis Trust.

How does it work?

  • When you arrive at Fighting Fantasy Fest 3, deliver any games or gamebooks you wish to sell to the Bring and Buy. There you will be given a raffle ticket for each item you are selling. The matching ticket will be attached to the item (using Blu Tack or a rubber band) with the price written on it. The price will also be recorded on a sheet by the person running the stand.
  • The Bring and Buy stand will be accepting items for sale on Saturday 31st August from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
  • When you are ready to leave Fighting Fantasy Fest 3, return to the Bring and Buy stand and either collect your items, if they have not sold, or hand over your raffle tickets and collect your earnings, minus the 10% commission rounded up to the nearest 10p, which will be donated to the UK Sepsis Trust.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT LAST COLLECTIONS FOR THE BRING AND BUY ARE at 4:00pm.
  • If you have not collected your unsold games and gamebooks or money by 4:00pm you will have agreed to donate the money to the UK Sepsis Trust. Any uncollected items will be disposed of as the organisers see fit.

Join the battle for a British Games Institute

Fighting Fantasy co-founder of Games Workshop, co-creator of Fighting Fantasy and godfather of the UK gaming industry Ian Livingstone is leading the campaign for a British Games Institute.

The www.britishgamesinstitute.com is a proposal backed by over 500 games, arts, finance and educational organisations, as well as both trade bodies TIGA and Ukie. But it won't happen unless politicians understand how important games are to UK people like you. And so Ian needs your help to persuade government to fund the British Games Institute.

If you've ever played a video game, you've probably played one made in the UK. From the breath-taking creativity of Monument Valley and LittleBigPlanet, the grand strategies of Total War and Football Manager, the exhilaration of F1 and Forza, the glorious exploration of Elite, the joy of Lego and Worms to the freedom and sophistication of Grand Theft Auto and Batman, the British have a genius for making games.

We have made world-class games for nearly 40 years, but the studios that make our games face massive challenges in raising the money needed to develop games, fighting low public and media recognition of games' impact on our culture and economy, and real difficulties accessing the skills to keep our games world-class.

British games contribute well over £1 billion to the country's economy every year but government funding for the art form that is games has been negligible. Some still question whether games are even an art form. In this day and age!

Many of the most influential people in games, finance, the arts and education believe that it's high time games had a single national public agency to champion games. This new agency will address these challenges by funding the production of cultural games, backing cultural projects like games festivals and heritage, and sourcing cutting edge skills through online training.

For the petition to be delivered to Minister of State, Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Matthew Hancock MP, it needs 10,000 signatures. It already has almost 4,000 but there is still a long way to go.

So please follow this link and sign the petition yourself, and then share it will all your friends and colleagues and ask them to sign it too, and let's make the BGI a reality!

Ian Livingstone at Storysmash in Nottingham today!

A master of fantasy writing and a titan of the gaming industry, Ian Livingstone CBE is probably still best known for co-creating the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks series, as well as being one of the co-founders of Games Workshop.

Ian will be at Storysmash in Nottingham, today, at 3:00pm, to talk about writing for games and gamebooks. If you are in the area, and especially if you weren't able to make it to Fighting Fantasy Fest 2 last weekend, don't miss this opportunity to meet one of the most significant figures in the games industry. Ian will talk about the challenges, how he approaches writing a new project, and how aspiring writers can begin thinking about their own future of game writing. The session will include an interactive session to get everyone writing.

Ian will also be signing copies of his brand new Fighting Fantasy gamebook, The Port of Peril, which will be available to purchase at the event.

This will be a great event for children 11+ and adults. Tickets are available from Eventbrite, or you can pay by cash in person at Nottingham Central Library.
